The D800E is amazing in low light. Per Nikon when D600 was released noise is very slightly worse on D600. I imagine in the field it would be insignificant. D800E basically see's in the dark. In summer there is more noise than in winter but the noise is easy to handle in LR. ISO6400 is my usual nightscape ISO setting. Its totally useable. ISO12600 works but is starting to lose resolution.
