I own the OMD and love it. My main concern with an older m43 camera would be the lower DR. When hiking in canyons or forests, I like my sky to be blue and my clouds to be nice a fluffy.

But in general, I've always found lenses to be more important than the camera. If you can only afford one or the other - go for the lenses.

Good glass has better contrast than a kit lens or a cheap lens because there is less light dispersion in the glass (light being distributed a bit in all directions, turning black areas into dark grey for instance). So a good lens captures more of the dynamic range of the scene than a cheap one and as a result also requires the sensor to be able to capture more dynamic range.

So in fact good glass requires a better camera to get the best out of it and this is not a matter of high iso capabilities or of resolution.

800.

Below that there is no meaningful difference in dynamic range.

And, the E-pl1 has ISO 100.

the OM-d doesn't.

Since the e-pl1's base iso is 200 and iso 100 is done with trickery, I wonder why Oly decided not to allow iso 100 on the om-d? Sensors are getting good enough at high iso that they are usable at isos I'll never use- I'd rather trade some of that off and have a lower base iso- at least 100.
