Hi all,
So, after having been guided through alternatives in the beginners forum I bought a NEX-6 with the 16/50 kit lens. Over all I am very happy with it - I love the grip, and am satisfied with it's performance in low light indoors - but I have a nagging feeling that it is just a tad too bulky for me to bring along as often as I would wish. I am afraid it could start to collect dust at home within a few months and kill my ambitions to document my everyday life. And since I have the opportunity to return it for something else I am again pondering the alternatives. Can the DPreview community maybe help me out again?
I am an amateur so I am not in the habit of lugging cameras along with me. So pancake/pancake zoom for everyday is the way forward for me, but I also want to slap a telephoto lens on it when I am travelling so the obviously pocketable candidate RX100 is out I am afraid.
NEX-6 is larger than NEX-5R. Are there reasons you picked 6 over 5R? That being said, near pocketability with any of these cameras applies only with pancake or smaller lenses. Once you enter the realms of telephoto, you give up that. Another thing to consider is that NEX has a larger sensor, with its benefits. The perceived disadvantage is that larger sensors don't allow larger crops of smaller sensors (the touted benefits of 4/3s and 1" sensors). BUT, you have larger image size to play with.
But then, I've not found very long reach to be more useful than wider angles. You can always crop for longer reach within reason, but you can't get a wider view out of a narrower FoV. I would make these arguments for FF over APS-C too.
