I was afraid that might be the case, although I was hoping that those flash tubes might last longer.

On average, they do. 50K to 100K pops aren't unusual. Though, the tubes Bowens uses for the Gemini line seemingly aren't made to the old standards. I'd bet that they are "made in China"...

However, I don't think the flashtube from 250R will fit in 500Pro monolight, because 250R has two "pins" (don't know the right word in English) and 500Pro has three. Or, am I wrong?

Oops, my wrong, escaped my notice that the 500Ws is a "Pro" variant. The faster 3 leg tubes aren't compatible with the standard 2 leg type.

I've never tried replacing the flashtubes myself. Is it just as simple as it sounds: untie the wire, pull the tube out, put new one in, tie the wire back?

Yes - with a little cautiousness, of course.

I know that the flashtube for 500Pro is much faster (1/2900) than the regular one (1/900) with two "pins", and therefore more expensive. Is it possible to use the standard one (two "pins") instead of that one, if I cannot find it anywhere locally?

Don't even try it - see above.

Also, does it have to be Bowens make, or I can use some alternative brand (for Bowens)?

For other Bowens models I know of less expensive tubes available - not so for the Gemini.
