After over a year living with this I have learned one thing...EPSON 4900=PROBLEMS.
We bought two of them in OCT 2011 when they were a terrific "deal" ($1150 each after instant rebate). Neither printer is used every day, but we try to remember to print a nozzle check page to keep things from drying out. God forbid we forget.
Over this time, between VERY FREQUENT nozzle clogs on all colors, wasted ink trying to clean them, and complete printhead failures that mysteriously come and go, this printer is officially declared JUNK. Both the printers we have have had similar failings, both have been replaced by Epson and both continue to have problems with ink, nozzles, printheads and paper misfeeds.
Both printers are in different locations in different climates, so I know it's not that.
I also know that we've used more ink just cleaning the nozzles over the year than in actual printing!
I suppose if you're a pro shop printing DAILY on these, keeping things running, they might work. Even when he have done that, entire printheads would mysteriously stop working.
Who knows? I just know a printer should not be this temperamental. Not when the cost of nozzle cleaning is measures in DOLLARS and not cents.
As I write this, I'm also working on getting six of the printheads fully working. CLEAN -> PRINT NOZZLE CHECK PAGE -> REPEAT.
Lots of fun. (not).
