I just tried the Clear image zoom feature with 2x zoom. It just crops the image. If I shoot raw and crop to the same extent I get the same results, but I keep raw. I fail to see the point.

AFAIK, clear image zoom is different then cropping and has a genuine advantage over it.
x2 CIZ means 70mm. lens image cropped from a 35mm. lens. So only about 6 mp is used out of 24 in RX1. However the date is interpolated back to 24 mp by Sony's so called "By Pixel Superresolution" technology (cheesy!), it is basically an intelligent pattern matching. Therefore this uprezzing is not just digital enlargement. Sony claims the IQ is close to the original file quality, a bold statement, however the results back it up, there are many who are satisfied and convinced that CIZ is better than PP cropping for sure, me included.
Another advantage may be that in CIZ the camera calculates exposure and white balance on the "zoomed" image, not on the entire 35 mm. However I am not sure of that, I thought this is what is going on with the "smart teleconverter" feature of the RX1 and I am not sure if this is the same for clear image zoom as well but some says so.I need to check that.
The image I got is 4.6mp, which means no interpolation. Maybe my settings are not right. I do have Clear Image zoom on, jpeg, right button assigned to zoom (either 1.4x or 2x).
