Quality of Light (studio strobes, speedlites)

I wonder what you think about the quality of light in studio flashes or portable speedlites ?

first time I have brought a few speedlites, the light was very good, then I have purchased an elinchrom d-lite kit. My first impression was that the light is a little on the warm side, and the quality of light lower than canon 580ex speedlites.

Then I got a n elinchrom quadra kit, and after my first shot I said WOW!, the light have a metallic like color, the subjects looks better and have a good texture definition. Of course I used a softbox of similar size in all cases. A known photographer said that he can recognize in a photo, if it was made with expensive lights or cheap lights.

What do you think about the flash light quality ? are all the same or how do you see this?
