It is a luxury. . . wide open it's nice, stopping down two or three clicks gives a better - well, maybe preferred is the word -  rendition than with a 1.4 or 1.7 lens wide open (where it takes them a click or few where they start to shine).   I have to use it more where I'd take it to f7.1 and such, and get a better handle on the field curvature compensation it calls for.
