Prime Shooters vs Zoom Lens Appreciators

it seems that there are numerous prime shooters that are, how do you say, intolerant to high quality zoom lenses. it's not that they prefer to use primes, it's that they fundamentally think zoomers have little inherent value period -  save for few purposes like wedding photography but can't fathom they are needed for anything else.

you really won't see the reverse, zoom lens users who look down at prime lens usage. seems zoom lens users are more reasonable.

i am not sure what is so hard to understand - good high quality zoom lenses with reasonably fast apertures are a great tool. you don't have to use them, but just like you don't have to use a dewalt drill ever, that doesn't make it not a great tool.

there are a lot of reasons a good fast zoom is useful to people. get over yourselves. we don't all want to use primes. i like primes, but i've used them as well as zooms, and for general shooting, prefer zooms. when travelling or just street shooting about, with an ff 24-70 perspective, one can go from shooting an architectural shot at 24mm, to a streetscape at 30mm, to shooting a few headshots of passerby's at 50mm and then back to an architectural shot, all within a second of each other - and you can go right back to the architectural shot a second after all that, and still be ready for everything else.

you don't have to be shooting a wedding for these kinds of opportunities to exist. i can go on and on for reasons why a good zoom is very useful for many types of shooting. or scenarios - such as travel with family or friends where you don't want to slow everyone down with constant lens changes, but you don't want to miss shots either.

but i think it's simply time for prime elitists to get over themselves - acknowledge that zooms are not for you, but let's get past this ridiculous notion that zooms are essentially useless tools for the general photographer.
