Does the Kodak slr/n really have a huge dynamic range?

I have the Kodak and several Nikons and I've noticed the tonal range seems very wide on the Kodak . The Nikon doesn't seem as wide (unless I use some D-Lighting). The Nikon's unadjusted image looks more like Transparency film. What do you think?
