Please note, that if you use a 40mm ball, it is posible you'll find it looking a bit small... it will easily hold your gear, but the look...
After replacing with a 54mm ball-head, things looks much better balanced now.
Just my 2 cents!
Btw. decided to go for a Benro B3 as an alternative to those mentioned by you. Can highly recommend it, if you care.
