The problem here is that there are FOUR or FIVE separate color conversions, and software doesn't seem very informative about what's going on.  Each of the three devices (camera, monitor, printer) needs a separate profile to convert its response to that of a standard device; there's also the color balance of the camera to consider; in addition, the image might be encoded in any of several color spaces.  Petrushka's method is an attempt either to manage the complexity or to reduce the errors (I'm not sure which).
