While I don't expect perfection, I've found that the 808 doesn't hold up in poor lighting against even my Canon G10 but it's the camera that I have with me most of the time now.

Am I expecting too much? I am currently trying to get a new 808 replacement from Nokia for issues related to 3G/HSPA and Maps. There's also purple tint visible in low light high ISO photos.

Never buy version 1.0 of anything.

Interesting. I just checked on the Canon G10 and it appears that the size of the sensor on this camera is 1/1.7" which is smaller than the one in the Nokia Pureview 808. I would appreciate if you can briefly describe in what ways the 808 is inferior to the G10 in low light, whether it is in noise, clarity/sharpness or something else.

Personally I regard the 808 as the best camera phone to date, and I don't know how future smartphones can improve on the quality of the 808's camera. I actually don't expect future smartphones to improve on the camera in the 808, nor do I expect the sensors in these phones to be larger than 1/1.2" not to mention touching 1/1.7". I consider the IQ of the 808 to be comparable to most good P&S up to $400. Although the 808 may be deficient in some areas, the differences will be quite minor.

In order to "comfortably" surpass the IQ of the 808 or good compacts, a camera with an APS-C sensor would be necessary, in my opinion. Otherwise, we won't see too much of a difference in IQ when comparing cameras in compact class, cameras with sensors smaller than 1" IMO. For this reason, if I were to consider a superior camera it will definitely need to come with at least an APS-C sized sensor(I have shortlisted the Fuji X100S to be my final "reference" camera). Having said that, I don't really take too many pictures or use the camera too often, and for this reason I have not committed to a better camera as of to date.

Sorry to hear about the problems you are facing with the 808 and I hope you could resolve the issues soon. I don't encounter any issues that you are experiencing.
