Nice quote but...

Thomas who? Must have been an American I suppose? Can't really be sure what he meant then as to Americans, communism, social-democrats, liberals and libdems are all the same.

The world seems to have been oversimplified for benefit of the American public, 2 parties is all it can handle and anything beyond those 2 must be "socialists".

To be quite honest, I'd call taking away from the working and giving to the others by many different names, such as:

"Tax", "Pension", "National Health Insurance", "Disability benefits" etc.  and I see nothing wrong with them at all. Moreover, these forms of solidarity have existed in most democratic countries in some form or other at least since the fifties of the last century, under a plethora of governments of all kinds. All of these countries are still a good deal more democratic than the US.

You might want to rethink that quote, it sounds like the kind of idiotic oversimplifications Americans seem to be capable of.
