Basically I would like to see a picture taken with my lens that tells the settings then I want to try to recapture something similiar on my own.

  1. go to flickr.com
  2. in the search box at the top right of the page, type 18-55 (or whatever lens focal length you like ... 70-200, 50-500, 18-135, 50 1.8, etc), and click the magnifying glass to search
  3. click on any picture you like
  4. in the upper left, click on the word 'actions' and click 'view exif info'
  5. the first 10 lines or so should give you what you need to get started ...

good luck
