Their stock plunges 19% after their forecast for 2013. That's the biggest drop since 1985. I could see Canon stepping in and purchasing Nikon. The new Cankon Camera Company. There will be more casualties in the camera business. I just hope it is not the one that has it's name all over my camera bag's content. Go Nikon!

No.

Stock price has very little, if anything to do with a company's short- or long-term prospects. "Analysts" using their crystal ball prediction methods are hysterical ninnies and stock price has nothing to do with the internal functioning of any corporation.

Nikon has several profitable product lines, not limited to their camera division. It is true that their future will require careful charting and they have to fix some terrible customer-relation problems (because they will have to rely heavily on the professional and pro-sumer market as low end cameras are replaced by smartphones and consumers of that vast segment go away). But careful management is needed by any quality company.

They will survive.
