Oneonta Gorge & Falls in B&W

Oneonta Gorge in the Columbia River Gorge. One of many falls to be seen, but one of the most magical walks to get to the spot. Only about 1-1/4 miles long, it starts with a scramble over a natural dam of huge logs that have fallen and blocked the entrance to the gorge. Then a walk along and through a shallow creek with towering stone walls dotted with ferns on either side. Towards the end, the passage narrows and you have the choice to climb along the wall or wade through the creek to continue. Depending on the time of year, it can be up to your knees or up to your neck. Not wanting to risk slipping and falling in the water with all my gear, I chose to wade. It was a little harrowing, not to mention cold, as the water got past my chin as I held my pack above my head. After that, you round the corner to a dead end and Oneonta Falls. Cheers and thanks for looking!!
The entrance...
...and the payoff.
