LR vs Elements

I am trying to decide between the 2 programs. I am a family picture taker of the kids sports and anything that strikes me...vacations.....all of that. Sooooo I have heard that Elements is an easier learning curve but then I have heard a lot more about LR. I tried to compare on the Adobe site but honestly it confuses me. Could someone tell me the benefit of one to the other? I have the t3i so I have the Canon DPP.......Just want to know the nuts and bolts of what is what and would be better to purchase.
