Just thought I would extend this discussion a little. Shot below is at ISO 3200 in reasonable light. Image from the OoC LF JPEG; auto-PP by a PS6 action ... Chosen more or less randomly while checking my folders in Bridge. No NR other than the in-camera setting.
Here's the same shot/subject matter that I started this post with, except it's ISO 3200 instead of ISO 1600. Very dim light. Shot was brightened quite a bit. As before, I used Nikon's NX2 to process the JPEG.
