It's always amazed me that there's such negative views of the D3200. I recently sold one - but not because it wasn't great (it was) but only because it didn't have an auto focus motor - which of course I knew about when I bought it.

I bought it purely for the video functionality it had and assumed I'd continue to use my D90 for photo's. However, there was so much about it that blew away the D90, I rarely ever used the D90 again.

I now have the D7000 which I'm very happy with because it's ok for video and takes a wider range of lenses but to be honest - I'd prefer the D3200 sensor in it (I know that is likely to be a very unpopular thing to say). The D3200 also handles white balance much better & has upgraded video functions.

I think those who champion the D3200 are right to do so - if I were starting again, I'd go down that route and just buy lenses with autofocus motors.

I'd be interested in what you thought "blew away the D90". I am looking at the D3200 - I like the body size and it felt really good in the hand. But it doesn't have the options of a D5100 (1/3 EV ISO increments, bracketing etc).

cheers

i think people keep forgetting that d3200 is an entry level  low cost camera, will not have the better feautres and controls of the higher end models,WHAT IT DOES HAVE IS EXCELLENT IQ,i use it alongside my bigger nikons(d700/d300s/d600)treat it for what it is ..an entry level dslr..with great iq
