Yes, we have had a go at M42 lately. What solved it for me was to use daylight WB. I originaly trusted the camera, but then I noticed that the lightpollution was wery gray-orangy-red. So I changed it to 5400K, as in daylight. That gave me some red to work with. I will, as soon as the sky clears, point my 60Da and a Leica lens or two at Orion, and see what happens.

That's a very interesting comment you made on white balance. I've always just gone with daylight WB for astro-imaging. So is the 5400°K a redder image than the standard daylight? If so, I'll give it a go at that to coax some more H-alpha response with my NEX-5N. Thanks for the great tip!
