How do you process your images?

Hi all

I've recently upgraded from a canon S2IS (lost it ) to an EOS 600D. I was an "enthusiast" with the S2, an amateur with the SLR now...

The camera came with a large bunch of applications for image management and processing.

With the S2, I usually stuck to Paint.NET and Picasa for all my PP needs, never used RAW ( Even with CHDK) and was pretty well served. I own a licence for photomatix for HDR needs (also used only on bracketed jpgs from the S2). I tend to stay away from software with a steep learning curve.

I am open to using RAW images for the SLR... but will the above programs serve me well? which of the applications in the product CD is an "Absolute Must Install'? MUST I learn Photoshop? - CS2 is available free of cost!!

What is your usual routine with PP??
