Here's the HDMI to DVI cable I bought for $6 shipped, and it has been working great.

With HDMI to DVI, there is no signal conversion involved, and it is pure digital all the way, so you get the best possible image.

Though if you already have a VGA cable, it won't hurt to try. These days VGA outputs seem to be a lot better than they were "back in the day", so many people see no difference between VGA and digital with modern VGA outputs into modern LCD monitors. That said, for $6 why not get the cable and know for sure that you are getting the best image.

Also, before I bought the $6 cable, I was using this $4 HDMI to DVI adapter with a DVI cable I got for about $3. It also worked fine, but I wanted a slightly longer cable and no adapter, so I bought the cable above.
