The thing is, that most of the Imatest tests, are performed at 20x to 50x focal lengths. For standard and medium telephoto lenses, that is fine, but for WA and UWA, it depends on the lens construction. Most of my UWA and WA lenses performs much better on the longer distances, but then, on those field tests, there are much more variables that might corrupt results.

Yeah, I wish there were some manner of sharpness-testing real world images rather than shots of test charts. For my uses, at least, I often care a lot more about sharpness in shots of subjects at medium-to-long distances and less about it when shooting things at your typical lens-test distance. Maybe the Photozone guys could buy an airplane hangar and paint a test chart on the back wall!

I just checked locally how much cost those test charts... ISO 12333 enhanced chart 40 x 71 cm cost 450 EUR without tax (And it is advised to change it every year).

And than the software comes...

Damn, I'll stay with my field tests.
