No, I meant comparable tests of competing lenses, not of the Sigma 19mm. I.e. I would like to see tests of the Zeiss 24 or some legacy ultrawides (or modern MF ones), done under the same test conditions as the Sigma.
I have here Sony SEL 1018 vs Sigma 19 some comparisons against SEL 1018. Of course, it is Zoom vs Prime, f4 vs f2.8 and 18mm vs 19mm.
My sample of Sigma 19 is certainly very sharp at f5.6 or f8 on NEX 7 even at the extreme corners.
The thing is, that most of the Imatest tests, are performed at 20x to 50x focal lengths. For standard and medium telephoto lenses, that is fine, but for WA and UWA, it depends on the lens construction. Most of my UWA and WA lenses performs much better on the longer distances, but then, on those field tests, there are much more variables that might corrupt results.
Testing and comparing lenses is very tricky thing.
Klaus also give some high marks for the build quality, and I would say, that if anything sucks (for the recent price) on those two Sigma's, that's the build quality. But we all might have different criteria.
