Is it worth selling the D200 to get a D300 for sports shooting?

Hi All
D200 owner for a long time but recently I bought a D600 and LOVE it. But for sports I am not sure since its between seasons and I have not shot full field soccer or football (for my kids) on the D600 and my 70-200 VR1. The 70-200 always worked great on the D200 but supposedly its not as good on FX, and ofcourse i loose some reach.
But with the D600 I can drop, so I wonder if reach is a big deal or now.
But I hear so many great things about the D300 AF. It looks like I can sell my like new D200 and get a D300 for only about $300 or so.
Is it a big upgrade? Would you do it? What are the biggest improvements?
The alternative is shooting with the D600 and cropping. But also the AF maybe not be as good as the D300, or so I hear. Frame rate is close but D300 is faster.
As an example for indoor sports. In the past on the D200 I shot with the 50mm for basketball when up close. with the D600 I chose the nikon 105 2.8 VR and that length worked great on FX but with the longer glass I did have to bump up the shutter speed. Still the D600 did well, better than the D200. But this is indoor with higher ISO.
for outdoor soccer maybe a used D300 could be a nice cheap upgrade? thoughts? And what advantage does the D300s have? Seems to be mostly regular d300 units for sales
thanks
