So why can't digital full frame be this size?

Thanks for all the answers people. I now understand current physical and technical reasons limiting a truly compact fullframe digital.

Given the leaps and bounds in the quality of the smaller sensors I think its probably more likey a true high quality compact camera can be acheived with a smaller sensor i.e RX100 and its future sucessors.
