If a person holds an imaginary camera out in front, you can see how forward the index finger goes. While holding the position, pull the index finger back to about where the original button would be. You will notice that the other fingers that normally do the gripping kind of want to splay out and apart. Try it and see how the hand feels and how it appears claw-like. Unnatural.

I don't find that at all. Perhaps I have gimpy hands, but, while I liked the BLD6 grip, I found that my index finger had to be 'kinked' more than I like to sit on the secondary release. I get a more natural extension using the original shutter release and I don't find that my fingers splay out or apart. Very comfortable for me. Money wasn't the issue for me, just comfort. And the fact that I do tend to leave the L bracket on. On the flip side, I can't split my fingers into the Star Trek "Live long and prosper" sign either, so God giveth and he taketh away.

Get the Oly grip in your hand and if it feels right, buy it. It's pricey, for sure, but that's what saving a few bucks every week is for! Every day I have an automatic transfer of $5 out of my account go into my 'photo savings' account. $150/mo adds up and results in shiny photographic doodads. Keeps all parties (Wife!) involved happy as well

I need to learn that level of responsibility. Mine has been about "spend first and answer questions later", lol.
