One other item, there always seems to be a possibility of an extremely slight magenta cast in some black and gray areas of a print when viewed under tungsten light, how does your print look in daylight?

I don't find it so slight.  And it's more of a reddish or purplish (actually I think it's red, not magenta.  Some of my prints with a lot of gray look like a eggplants when they are fresh.  Even after 24 hours, the grays have a strong cast in tungsten light, although they look neutral in skylight or daylight.  This seems to be a problem with this printer.  For what it's worth, I don't see the same problem with my HP.

I found that I can get an acceptable compromise by subtracting magenta, but that messes up the non-gray areas of the print.  No amount of experimentation with Canon-supplied profiles allowed me to fix that up.  And no, I'm not double profiling, although I did try that in desperation.

So--suggestions for tweaking profiles? *

* (Ideally I'd like this not to be like taking a second job or a second mortgage.)    I know I can't be too picky, but for what it's worth, I have Photoshop Elements, which came with the printer, GIMP, and I think I might be able to find an old copy of Photoshop.  All other things being equal I like open source programs because (1) sometimes you can get them fixed, (2) I can print from Linux, and (3) the price is right.
