A little experiment with my wife the painter as subject (or should I say "co-author"):

Random thoughts:
Graffiti is everywhere, just that most of it is ephemeral?
cf. photographs of musicians/singers in which physical aspects of the artistry are unseen (notwithstanding motion blur). Put an LED on Seiji Ozawa's wand or Yo-yo Ma's bow?
Relationship of motion to art. It comes to mind when I see a Pollock, a woodblock print, or even some canvas produced by a clever elephant or chimp, but not when I see an "ordinary" painting or drawing. Stone sculpture does generate thoughts of hammer-and-chisel, shards flying. Recently I attended a performance of an African marimba ensemble; just hearing a recording wouldn't have been a patch on the direct experience.
Viewing photographs in future, perhaps I'll remember to speculate scenarios of physicality involved in the getting of the shots.
In this picture, inclusion of the post-and-beam lends an industrial flavor to the setting, slightly suggesting a graffiti theme. Overall, the picture manifests intent to make a photograph, which unfortunately eliminates potential for any shred of candidness.
Roel, could you comment on the camera settings? I'd like to understand reasons for low ISO + small aperture.
Low ISO and small aperture are both intended to result in the necessary longevity of the shutter speed to give enough time for the drawing. Low ISO also to avoid noise in long exposure in pretty dark circumstances.
Here was our inspiration (photo by Gjon Mili for LIFE) (we are still a way off, but we will get there eventually - BTW, I am pretty sure that the picasso photos, contrary to ours, are composites of multiple exposures layered : one long exposure for the painting and one or more faster ones for the artist):
