I am about to buy a Canon 650d and I was wondering... How fast does the SD card have to be for 1080p recording... I was considering buying this:

ebay

according to the canon site this is the data rate:

1920 x 1080 (FULL HD)30/25/24 fps, 22min @ 330MB/min
which would mean that it would use 5.5mb/s... so would 30mb/s be fast enough?
All this is really a pitty, I recently lost my 45mb/s SDHC card =.=

I have that exact card (SanDisk Ultra 32GB Class 10) in my 650D but I haven't actually recorded any videos yet. I did use your reasoning for my purchase. Oh and by the way, that card is 30MB/sec READ. For WRITE, it is closer to 10MB/sec, but that should still be plenty. It does fine for burst mode also.

I recorded a 3 minute video with my Sandisk Ultra 2 8gig card.  Had no issues.

I did notice that my Sandisk Extreme 8 gig card allowed 8 frames of RAW shooting before slowing to a crawl.  The Ultra 2 only allowed the 5 frames before slowing to a crawl.  Both are rated for 30mb/s.
