Problem ???? With 40D

I may have a problem with my new to me 40D. I have noticed that on occasion, there seems to be a tiny lag, before the shutter fires. Sometimes in burst mode, there will be a tiny lag between shots. Today, when changing lenses, I noticed some small scratches on the mirror. Can something be causing the mirror to hang up slightly. This would certainly account for the occasional lag, and the scratches.

I want to go to my grave, tires bald, fenders knocked off, out of gas, and yelling, WOW what a ride.
