I'm heading on safari in June and think it wise to get a suitable lens. I have a GF3 at the moment so it makes sense to get the Panasonic 100-300.

The question is can I justify the cost versus the Panasonic 45-175 or 45-200?

Can I also justify the investment in such a low spec. body? Bearing in mind that the next body I buy will be a DSLR, but I won't be buying a DSLR and long lens for this trip.

would be to get a legacy telephoto zoom, e.g. 70-210mm which would then be usable on the dSLR you purchase later without an adapter. Cost will be about $50.00 for a good one. This will give you the reach of a 140-420mm FF equivalent focal lenght lens-perfect for safari.

Good luck manual focusing those on the move!

You mean the Safari truck doesn't stop for photo opportunities?

When they stop you're ok but I'm sure there are also plenty of shots to be had when moving, that's where the difficulty lies.

That's not what Elmer Perikins did on Wild Kingdom!

Can't say I'm familiar with Elmer....

Jim always stopped the truck before he went out to wrassle a Hippo.

or Jim....

Alternatively, you could get two legacy fixed focal lengt primes, e.g. 135mm and 200mm for about $75.00 which again you could use on your dSLR without adapters when you get that body. They will be a bit faster and better IQ than the zoom.

Don't worry about it Tony,

It was a period TV show from the 60's in the U.S.

You had to be there.
