I am looking to buy a used Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS.
The owner says it has a small scratch on the front lens but does not affect image quality.
Are there any hidden issues with buying an expensive lens with a small scratch on the front element.
The price is $1100 with a UX date code.
Thanks...Alan
A scratch on the front element is not critical to image quality, but it hints that the lens is not entirely well kept. It takes some effort to scratch the glass. There might be other mechanical damage. The front element might have become de-centered.
How does the rest of the lens look like?
