Some context is:
a) I like the 14 but find it a little pedestrian. It just doesn't inspire me. I wouldn't get the 12 if it didn't change that. But I remember the FOV of my old LX3 and the amazing shots it could so easily take in 16:9.
b) Going to Vietnam for a week for Chinese New Year. Mix of city and beach.
c) I love both portraits (candid) and landscapes and have a long way to go in developing each (particularly intimidated by landscapes).
d) I'll probably end up with both but like to dose out the fun and learn bit by bit.

your thinking is entirely backwards.
You are supposed to have the vision-the tool helps you execute it.
Does a carpenter look at the chisel and say, "inspire me"?
Does a mason look at the trowel and say, "inspire me"?
Does a painter look at his brush and say, "inspire me"?
If there was ever an indictment for an Artist lacking vision, the Origianl Post is it.
I would be imbarassed to make a post like that.
Man, spend some time looking at work from the Masters, take a class or just go outside and sit for a while-but don't expect "inspiration" form your tools!

If you get another tool that can do something none of your other tools can do then it can lead to some inspiration- hence my recommendation for an UWA. Of course you need some vision to appreciate what the new tool is capable of/can offer and some skill to realise it.
