I think you are not well acquainted with either the XP1 and XE-1 cameras.
What do you mean? I had the old X10 and currently have the X-E1. I won't talk about high ISO performance as this is difficult to evaluate and compare. But resolution is quite clear and easy to find out. I agree with the original poster that Fuji's marketing claims have been quite bold lately... The whole marketing of the X-Trans sensor suggests that in terms of resolution and sharpness that sensor is better than conventional Bayer pattern sensors.
However, actual pictures/ samples and my some 1500 pics I have made so far indicate that neither sharpness nor real detail is any higher than let's say in a Nex-5N.
However, the X-trans sensor with a different colour matrix opened up a can of worms in terms of RAW conversion. So far I fail to see the real benefit of not going with a conventional sensor.
I like the system as a whole, for it's good Fuji colours/ skin tones and the good lenses, but Fujis marketing claims are over the top.

can I ask what RAF converter are you using? I also had trouble with regards to maximizing the detail output of my XE-1 when using Adobe. that's why I asked for some advise here on which raw pp engine would be the best for the Fuji raf output. so far, I'm getting great results from C1 and some very good ones directly from Silky.
I cannot justify the comparison done by image resource due to the raw software used which could put the XE-1 in a disadvantage. not to mention the default parameters could be also influenced differently.
I think this is a misunderstanding for the readers. of course, higher MP would surely have more resolution than a lower one. but also, the lens resolution have an influence on it as well. this is pretty elementary understanding. but what I understand is that the AA filter type used in older/previous cameras do in fact influence resolution and sharpness. but that is aside the main point which is the X-trans sensor. obviously, the X-trans benefit is at the High ISO level which as you mentioned that you cannot evaluate and compare but surely enough you could easily notice and observe with the images, right?
I don't think that the graph suggests that the X20 could compete directly with the D800 but rather states it has improved significantly in it's category in terms of resolution and S/N ratio as does the larger sensors do. just look closely at the graph where the X20 sits among the cameras and where the large sensors sit in the graph. I just feel like some posters are overblowing the issue with unfounded basis.
