14-24mm suitable for forest light ray shots? (flare..)
Feb 5, 2013

Hi,

Because of the lack of a D400 (DX) I'm looking into a D800(E) for landscape shots and more particularly the kind of images you see below. I take a lot of these shots and want to either buy a 14-24mm or 16-35mm (currenly use D300 + 10-24mm/16-85mm DX for landscapes). My worries are the susceptibility to flare of the 14-24mm as is mentioned by many people. Does anyone know if it is really that much worse than a 16-35mm VR or even a 10-24mm DX? As you can see on the shots below, I'll be facing towards the sun a lot :p. To be clear, I'm not asking for which lens is better since I already know the answer. I already know I will be getting flare but to what extent (relative to...).

Thanks!!
