FZ200 - Great Grey Owls visiting Ottawa from up North
3 months ago

Every 4 years or so there is not enough food in the northern Boreal forest and Great Grey Owls come southward for part of the winter.

These were shot with a Nikon TC-E17ED teleconverter on the FZ200 giving an effective focal length of 1020mm at f2.8. The two extreme close-ups were shot with iZoom enabled giving an effective focal length of 2040mm.

All shots were taken on a tripod with a manual cable shutter release to avoid camera shake. It was windy so in order to freeze feather movement shutter speeds were kept high, which was possible even on an overcast day because of the f2.8 aperture. Shot in 12 fps burst mode.
