Maybe because most of us have never seen the problem? Posterization is due to a lack of information in what should be smooth gradient transitions in the image and the fault is with the jpg format. The lack of noise in the image also makes posterization more prevalent.

I can shoot the same sunset with my LX5 and Fuji superzoom with little or no posterization where the D5100 has it in spades.

All jpegs.

The other time I've seen this it wasn't actually a camera problem but a computer/monitor setup issue. Can't remember the thread. Don't think your poserization is a camera issue.
