I found what will work...the R300 LED Ring light, Powerful enough to use on a human figure and fully adjustable so not any chance of ever being overwhelmed by too much light or to suffer from lack thereof.
Another problem with the R-300 ring light: For a closeup shot of a very shiny subject like a wedding ring, you're going to see a reflection of all those little points of light in your subject. you could probably mount a milky-white diffuser in front of the unit, but that would not solve the other problems with ring lights that I already described.
A ring light is a bad choice for photographing jewelry, except maybe in very specific cases
Perhaps dentistry or police procedural TV shows, otherwise I don't know if I have come across a case where a macro ringlight was a good idea.
