The reason they didn't run with it was cost - the cost of FF production was too high, the retail price too high, and their market share too small to support it.

I don't know that FF will be for the majority despite the enthusiasm here....... DSLRs have their place, and probably always will, but when "the majority" see just how big an FF DSLR is, Pentax or not, many will baulk at buying and carrying one over APSC, MFT, 1", etc. It isn't going to be the size of an ME super - it will be significantly bigger than a K5.

Eventually, I think the majority of buyers buying anything bigger than a phone or compact will go mirrorless. EVFs are getting better. On-sensor PDAF is getting fast. And size, or more accurately, IQ per camera size and weight, is the reason that mirror-less is on the march. The benefits of mirror-less (ie the savings in bulk and weight) increase with format size. I'm personally as excited by the possibility of a small WR, FF AF CSC with K mount (and a high grade built in EVF please) as a new DSLR.

I was in a store recently that had a Canon 5DMkIII on the shelf with the 24-105 lens, a combo that I considered for myself recently. But what a huge beast! I would never walk around all day with a camera like that, unless I was a working pro on an assignment and absolutely needed that kind of output. If I was flush for cash, I *would* own a FF body for detailed work like landscapes, but I would also own a smaller system like my Pentax APS-C setup, which I can carry around all day without breaking a sweat. On the other hand, I find cameras *smaller* than the Pentax APS-C bodies a bit too small to operate comfortably, and unless I can fit them in my pocket I don't find much advantage to the smaller formats. We all have unique needs, but I find cameras like the K-5, K-30 and K-01 strike the ideal balance between size and performance.
