D300 and screw drive/AF-D

Hello all,
I will need to replace my old d2h fairly soon, and the d300 seems an ideal move for me.......reliable/improved IQ/a more recent af module, and more megapixels will also be very welcome. Its extremely rare for me to need above 800iso, so no worries there also.
If i get one of these bodies, i would also get a battery grip {which fortunately will also accept my d2h battery...i believe}, but my remaining concern is how the power/torque of the d300 in-built motor compares with my d2h {or d2x}.
I recently bought a 300mm f4 afd tele, for wildlife video {for use with my m43 panasonic gh2...using MF only}, but also for general BIF shooting with my d2h {nothing too extreme}, and when teamed up with my d2h, the AF is comfortably up to the task of "fullish framed" on-coming birds of medium speed, such as various gulls/fulmar/oystercatcher/cormorant etc.....although obviously not swift/swallows {and that is using a kenko pro-300 1.4 also}.
I realise its difficult to give a precise comparison between power/torque of different bodies, but if any of you d300 owners have owned either a d2h or d2x, i would value your thoughts on this subject {especially with the added grip, and whether this further beefs up the AF}.
thanks chaps!
