How often do you crop?

Larry, why is when one crops of any importance to when you press the shutter button and why is that? Why are some indoctrinated to believe that creativity ends right there? Why is this even a consideration in the least bit? Who came up with this and when?

Most of the time I can see the other point of view in a discussion. Most of the time there's some validity I can point to, but in this, it seems 100% off the chart foolish to me. I cannot see why in the earth it makes any difference at when a photographer makes a creative decision. Who says one can't review one's work and make a change? any change at all to make it better?

Getting it right in the camera means one thing to me. It means getting it as close as you can to what you want and have visualized in your mind's eye with respect to what you know you may have to do in post. This in no way means I can't rethink what's "right" later. The creation process continues and continues. How much you crop has nothing, zero, nada to do with "good photography."

I myself, would prefer to do less cropping than I can. I find pleasure in the early part of the process. I find that easier than chopping it all up, but in no way would I consider you a poor photographer if that's how you came up with compelling and beautiful images. No way, Larry. I'd applaud you. The final result of your labor is what makes you a good photographer.
