Dell XPS 8500 SSD
Feb 4, 2013

I've just bought a Dell XPS 8500 with 2TB HDD and 32GB MSATA cache drive.

I want to install a new samsung 840 250mb drive I have bought.

My problems being I don't have a clean windows 8 install disk with it.

Also when I install the SSD I put it into port 0 the 6b/s port, I then use the samsung software to create a clone of my HDD OS onto my SSD, I then change the settings in BIOS to boot from the SSD. It worked, but kept having glitches for some reason and some apps didn't work, also in windows experience index it shows the HDD as the main drive still? Although it not..

I've tried to set my BIOS to AHCI mode its currently in RAID, but when I do windows boots up then restarts all the time, as if its not compatible with AHCI.

I'm not sure if the 32GB MSATA SSD that comes with the DELL is causing problems also. How would I disable this, I can't see any options in the BIOS, also would the MSATA work with the HDD still if the SSD is the main OS drive?

Any help would be much appreciated..
