Just purchased a Sigma 50mm 1.4 very soft wide open????

Just purchased a brand new 50mm 1.4 tonight and did a few test shots. Imported them into lightroom and found the images very oft wide open. Did a little test with same iso (100).. the results explain why my images appeared soft and not at all sharp.. see ingredient printing.. becomes clear until 2.0. Did I get a bad copy or is this what I should expect at 1.4.. Thanks!
