On such occasions or when it rains (and it seems to rain constantly where I live) I fasten the extension tube I need to attach the wide-angle lens to (without the lens) to the cam and stick the tube through a specially tailored hole in a strong plastic sack (one of these with a zipper at the opening).

Very good idea. I can do the same with the extension tube I bought to attach a polarizer. That would somewhat protect the lens. And use a plastic bag for the camera.

But I suppose that would lead to shoot using the LCD (looking at it through the bag) . I hate that. I'm an old style VF guy...
