The Tamron 70-300 VC is not crappy... and certainly at 200mm I am going to have a hard time believing the 70-200 f4 is much better,as  the Tamron is really good at 200mm.

The Tamron does suffer from low contrast in harsh light  and AF is not terribly good, but optically it's certianly not a POS in the overlapping focal length. the Nikon 70-200 f4 VR will possibly offer better corner performance and AF , as well as contrast, but it's FAR from a slam dunk optically better lens which is what you are claimng.

I can post RAW samples for all to see just how sharp Tamron is at 200mm.
