People regularly overstate matters in these forums, it's part of the 'perfectionist' language.

Calling Tyson Gay or Yohan Blake sluggish because Usain Bolt beats them to the line is not a case of "overstating matters". It's just BS.

Your unfortunate use of Gay and BS in place of a well reasoned debate says it all. I made the mistake of assuming you knew something about A/F.

Enjoy your new toy.

The only thing unfortunate here is that you take offense at mentioning somebody's actual name. Last time I saw this was at elementary school (oh and also watching Beavis and Butthead) and surely wasn't expecting it to happen here.

Ah, glad you mentioned that. The way you wrote it sounded like you were referring to another sports person with the surname Tyson and calling him Gay. My apologies, not too proud to admit a mistake. Now I understand what you meant, I am definitely not offended.

Nick

Glad to hear it was a mistake, I couldn't believe your reaction to be honest.

As for semantics and whether people mean slow in general or slow in comparison to the fastest there is, don't you think that in forums like this, one needs to be careful not to mislead other people? We are referring to a broad range of cameras in this forum and people that read these comments have a lot of cameras in mind they might consider buying, not the top 2 with fastest AF. So you cannot really write RX100 has slow AF, is sluggish and leave it there. It's just poor writing. You need to qualify it, not everybody works on the race track. In fact very few people do. The fact is that the RX100 feels incredibly fast for a compact, makes all my previous Canons feel really slow and they didn't feel like that when I was using them.

The person who started this stated: "Albeit I do concede the RX-100 has better IQ (compared to the LX series) but this must be weighed against it's double price, lousy ergonomics, slow lens, lousy battery life and slow autofocus."

You notice the use of the comparative "better", but the use of the absolute, "lousy, slow, lousy, slow". You don't have to be a genius to realise that this was done on purpose. Imagine if by reverting the order, I stated that the LX7 has lousy IQ, but better ergonomics, faster lens, better battery life and faster autofocus". Who would buy this garbage? With lousy IQ who cares about fast lenses and AF and better battery life to help you get more lousy pics in one charge?:)
