It is a little difficult to comment as you do not show the position of the AF point in your examples. However there appear to be several issues with your target when compared to the Nikon guidance as to when autofocus does not perform well.

As the size of the single point AF detection area in the D800 is a much smaller than in the  D700 it does not follow that each camera will produce identical focus with some less than ideal focus subjects.
