Tokina Confirms Pentax Full-frame Under Development

This may well seem like an obtuse question, and it's desperately early days, but how feasible would it be for a company to release two models with near identical features, but for sensor size, buffer size, fps rate differences?  Could they release a "bottom feeder" and a high mpx model at the same time?
